Our Story

There is a major part of every historical society that doesn’t get acknowledged nearly enough. And that is the acts of generosity from our dedicated supporters, like you, who keep our history alive. Your contributions are essential for the continuation of educational opportunities for school children, engaging programming for all ages, and preservation of artifacts and buildings that represent our shared history.

In 2024, we opened our doors to over 500 elementary school students as they stepped back in time to experience our living history program “ A Day in 1762”. We assisted with over 50 historical research requests. We gave over a dozen tours to private groups. We were also able to host and participate in several events including a 12th Night Celebration, Historical Performers as Susan B. Anthony and Queen Elizabeth, a Colonial Independence Day Celebration, Tavern Night, our 4th Annual Historic Elm Street Lantern Tours, our first ever Valley History Bus Tour and several local fairs, festivals and events.

This year, we continue to offer this programming but are introducing a monthly family workshop and educational programs for students of all ages both in the classroom and at the Humphreys House.

None of this is possible without the continued support of our friends and neighbors who, since 1946, have allowed us to create these programs and events that bring history alive.  Can we count on you to help us continue offering these experiences?

We thank you for your support of the Derby Historical Society and our important work of preserving the Valley’s history for future generations.  We look forward to seeing you at the David Humphreys House soon!
